Chelsea Kocher has been selected as Brookville Equipment Corporation’s Employee of the Month for May.
Chelsea has been employed at Brookville Equipment Corporation for the past 11 years, starting out as a Part Sales Technician with BROOKVILLE, followed by a Rebuild Parts Specialist with Brookville Services, to her current position of Part Sales Account Manager for Mining and Tunneling. She was promoted to this position in 2019.
As a Part Sales Account Manager, Chelsea’s duties include taking on a higher level of a leadership role, such as managing her team and training new team members. Chelsea is also responsible for things such as customer service, parts support, stocking levels, parts management, etc. Chelsea’s main focus is how quickly can we get our customer’s equipment back up and running.
Chelsea’s favorite type of equipment to work on is the 20 ton, 25 ton, and 30 ton mining locomotives. She says, “mining locomotives are my absolute favorite.” She went on to explain that she is fascinated with how they work and what all they can do. BROOKVILLE’s mining locomotives are the work horse of the mine and they are what keeps the mine running smoothy and operationally. These pieces of equipment move their whole production system through the mine.
When Chelsea was asked, “How do you keep yourself motivated at work?,” she said “I really concentrate on staying positive about all situations, whether it is good or bad. I just try to stay positive and not let negative things drag me down. It doesn’t cost anything to be happy and I want to have that reflection on my team as well. I always want to have a smile on my face.” Chelsea’s favorite thing about her job is the fact that she gets to help customers solve their problems every day. Chelsea’s job as a Part Sales Account Manager doesn’t always mean there is a problem, however, she also is able to help her customers with preventative maintenance. Chelsea also loves the team here at Brookville Equipment. Her coworkers are another favorite part of her job.
Through Chelsea’s 11 years at Brookville Equipment, she has learned a lot of new knowledge like learning about engines, reading schematics, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, axle building, unit functionalities, etc. She has learned a lot of how BROOKVILLE operates and how the processes work at the company, this knowledge goes beyond the vehicles itself. Chelsea has also learned a lot of about how the mining industry works and its uniqueness compared to other markets, further how unique each customer is. During Chelsea’s employment she says her biggest challenges have been her interactions with customers and making sure all their needs are met. She wants to make sure their equipment is running to the best of her and the mine’s ability, so makes sure to take the time to ensure she is getting the parts to them in a timely fashion. Some of the other challenges she has faced is serving such a diverse workforce and meeting customer expectations, especially in this economy of long lead times and shipment delays.
One of the most important lessons Chelsea had learned through her career is to make your job your career. She said “put the time in, make it your expertise and make it your career.” Chelsea also advised people to decide to be happy. She said, “You have to decide ahead of time to be happy and not let the little things drag you down. It is an important decision to make, but it can make the difference of having a happy life or a sad life. If you are uplifting in the workforce or personal life, it’s harder for negative people to drag you down.” Chelsea reflects this in her daily and professional life.
During her free time, Chelsea enjoys her side business of face painting for birthday parties, festivals, reunions, etc. She also enjoys archery hunting, fishing, riding horses and spending time with her husband, Zack and son, Conor.
