The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Streetcar was the first-ever designed and manufactured, American made, off-wire capable modern streetcar in the United States. DART was also the first iteration of the Liberty Streetcar line for BROOKVILLE. This vehicle utilizes an innovative onboard energy storage system (OESS) to power the car’s motors, while traveling approximately one mile of the 1.6 mile line without aid of an overhead catenary system (OCS) while crossing the Houston Street Viaduct.
DART features three passenger compartments, at 66.5 feet long and eight foot wide with a 70 percent low-floor area, providing accessible seating for passengers and automatic leveling system for easy boarding. This vehicle will travel at a maximum speed of 44 mph along its 1.6 mile route through Dallas’s urban core to the downtown Union Station hub.
